When vector conversion fails

Vector conversion is powerful, but it is not the right answer for every image. A vector file is made from shapes and paths. A raster file can still be print-ready. It does not need to become vector to be accepted by a shop. It needs enough resolution, a clean edge strategy, and a format the production workflow can handle.
Cut paths and sticker contours
Sticker contours are a special case. A vectorized silhouette can be useful even when the artwork itself stays raster. The product can create or suggest a cut-friendly outline around a simple subject while preserving the full-color art as pixels.
That path should be reviewed carefully. Hair, smoke, glow, transparent shadows, and complex backgrounds can produce messy contours. The report should explain whether the silhouette is reliable enough for a cut path.
How to review vector output
Review vector output at the final size and at close zoom. Check curves, corners, holes in letters, small details, color breaks, and background cleanup. If the vector looks worse than the raster source, do not use it just because it is scalable.

The report should explain that vector is best for shape-based artwork, while many AI images are better prepared as raster files with correct DPI, bleed, and color handling.
Vector versus proof approval
Even a good vector file can still need proof approval. The customer should review scale, crop, color, and cut path behavior before production. A vector file solves scaling; it does not automatically solve layout intent or material behavior.
